Moira Shire Council continues to face higher rates of road trauma than the state average, prompting strong community concern.
Following earlier engagement through a Road Safeyy Questionnair that closed in September 2024, Council has developed the draft Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2025 - 2030 to address this issue and work towards zero harm goal. The strategy outlines actions to improve safety for all road users through education, infrastructure, and enforcement and has been supported by funding through the Transport Accident Commission (TAC)
We're now inviting the community to review the draft document and provide feedback to ensure it reflects local priorities. Your input will help shape a safer, more connected Moira Shire.
Public review of the draft strategy will be open from Monday 08 September to Friday 17 October.

Moira Shire Council believes making roads safer is a community effort. Together with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), Council has created a survey for the community to share their experiences, concerns and suggestions regarding road safety.
Moira Shire Council has received over $3.1 million of funding from the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program – an initiative targeting road locations where crashes occur or are at risk of occurring.
Road safety is on the agenda for Moira Shire Council and community sporting clubs as an initiative driven by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and the Australian Football League (AFL) Victoria will see clubs spreading the key message to ‘Show up for your team. Slow down on the road’. In addition to road safety benefits, some clubs will be able to access the TAC Club Rewards Program, encouraging safe driving behaviours while earning financial rewards.
Aligned with the objectives of the Victorian Road Safety Strategy 2030, which aims to create safer rural roads for all users, the speed limit on Labuan Road will be lowered to 80km/h by Wednesday 18th October.
Moira Shire Council’s Chair of the Panel of Administrators John Tanner AM welcomed the Minister for Roads and Road Safety’s announcement to help Councils make local roads safer.
