Moira Shire Council is developing an Open Space Strategy to guide the management, planning and usage of our more than 200 open spaces across the Shire. The Strategy will guide to support the provision of accessible and high-quality open spaces.
The community feedback period has now closed. Thank you for your participation. Your insights will help shape the Draft Open Space Strategy.
What is Open Space Strategy?
Our open spaces play a vital role in supporting the positive health and wellbeing of residents, workers and visitors to our Shire.
Open spaces include parks, aquatic and recreational facilities, natural areas, play spaces, cemeteries, and recreation trails for walking and cycling.
We are developing Open Spaces Strategy to ensure our spaces evolve with the community, addressing the diverse needs of people of all ages, life stages, and cultural backgrounds, and promoting inclusivity and connection.
The Moira Open Space Strategy will:
- Identify existing open spaces, their functions and catchments.
- Identify existing and future community needs.
- Identify any gaps in the network, particularly where existing parks are limited in meeting local needs.
- Guide the future planning and asset management for open spaces.
- Promote smooth coordination for activation and management of open spaces.
How We Engaged
Residents provided detailed feedback on how they use parks, trails, and recreational areas, and what changes they would like to see.
Community members dropped pins to highlight what they love about our open spaces and suggest improvements.
Local students participated by completing activity sheets, sharing their ideas on what makes great open spaces.
