Strengthening Community Connections in Nathalia

16 September 2025

The Nathalia Local Safety Forum brought together residents, Victoria Police and Moira Shire Council representatives to discuss safety priorities and build stronger community partnerships.

Victoria Police outlined their ongoing commitment to the Neighbourhood Policing Framework, which focuses on listening to community concerns through forums, surveys, and transparent communications.
Key policing priorities for the region include family violence, vehicle-related crime, burglary, road safety, and assaults, with a strong emphasis on prevention and harm reduction.

Local challenges such as theft from farm properties and firearm safety were discussed, alongside operational limitations and the importance of community education.

Community members raised concerns about highway driving behaviours, access to photo ID for those without a licence, and the need for better engagement with elderly residents. Police encouraged reporting through 000 and CrimeStoppers and shared information about traffic enforcement technologies like portable speed cameras and mobile phone detection.

The forum closed with a shared commitment to ongoing collaboration and improving safety outcomes across Nathalia and surrounding areas.

The next Local Safety Forum will be held on Tuesday 18 November at Sacred Heart College in Yarrawonga.
